My Western Water Accelerated Revenue Repayment Act is a win-win for water users and fiscal responsibility. My bill allows water users to be free of burdensome federal regulations and paperwork requirements if they repay their debt to the government early. It also expedites payments while generating hundreds of millions for the Treasury. Without my bill, nearly 85% of irrigation districts have no way to make an early repayment. Just like homeowners can pay off their mortgage early if they want to, my bill allows agriculture and municipal water users to use a similar authority to prepay construction and other costs they owe to the federal government.

I’m helping lead the charge to ensure Colorado is not shortchanged in any Colorado River proposals and our communities receive the water to which they are entitled. Lower basin states continue to overuse the Colorado River, exacerbating water challenges for Colorado and the rest of the basin in the process. This week’s Resources hearing was extremely productive as we secured water commitments for important projects in Colorado as well as for important data that will help guide future negotiations.

Veterans, seniors, and other citizens in Colorado’s Third District have routinely complained about the unacceptable service they have received from the United States Postal Service. This is unacceptable, and I have continually advocated to fix rural Colorado’s mail delivery issues on their behalf. While things have improved in recent months, the Biden administration’s decision to eliminate 15,000 rural pharmacies from the Department of Defense Health Agencies Cigna/Express Scripts reimbursement plan has created a new prescription mail crisis. No veteran or senior should ever have to go weeks without important quality of life prescriptions, and I’ll continue to fight to ensure they receive their mail on time.

While many hard-working Americans were working through the pandemic, federal bureaucrats were lounging at home and not even logging in to their computers. Shockingly, more than three years past the start of the pandemic, numerous public servants are still teleworking and only going in to the office one day per week, all at the expense of the American taxpayer. I have heard from countless constituents who did not get their tax returns back on time, who did not get their passports in a timely manner, and who did not get benefits from the VA because federal employees were teleworking. The House Oversight and Accountability Committee and I are demanding transparency from federal agencies on their secretive telework policies so that the American people know what exactly their tax dollars are funding and how their public servants are serving them.

My commonsense bipartisan amendment passed the House 303-126. My amendment requires the Secretary of Homeland Security to create an annual report on the number of illegal aliens deported for assaulting law enforcement officers. This will promote accountability and transparency
for removing criminal aliens. The American people have a right to know if illegal aliens are attacking law enforcement officers and to what extent.

My bill repeals every gun control provision and Second Amendment infringement passed by the 117th Congress and signed into law. I unapologetically support the Second Amendment. No amount of gun control will ever eliminate evil in our society, and unsurprisingly, the data has shown time and again that gun control does not decrease gun violence. Just look at Chicago or New York, where gun control has created criminal safe havens since evildoers know their victims will be unarmed.

Mesa County has been waiting more than five years for the Bureau of Land Management to sell it a parcel of land that the federal government no longer needs or wants. I introduced the CONVEY Act to cut through the bureaucracy and expedite the process for Mesa County. This land will be used for critical economic development in Clifton that will bring more job creators into Mesa County. I support Mesa County’s efforts that will facilitate economic growth in an area that needs new opportunities. I am grateful for Mesa County and the Bureau of Land Management’s work on this issue, and I look forward to continuing to work with them both as we find a solution.

I am thrilled that the House Committee on Natural Resources trusted the nonpartisan science and passed Rep. Tiffany’s and my bill to finally delist the recovered gray wolf and focus scarce taxpayer funding on endangered species that actually need help recovering. I will never stop advocating for rural Colorado, and I will keep working to protect farmers, ranchers, and their livestock from wolf attacks. The science is clear, the gray wolf is fully recovered, and it is time for the federal government to get out of the way and allow state and tribal wildlife agencies to manage this species.

Ensuring the federal government does all it can to help the community transition during the Pueblo Chemical Depot’s closure is one of my priorities. My Pueblo Jobs Act will prohibit the federal government from cutting corners by requiring the Secretary of the Army to rigorously follow the standard Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) process when closing the Pueblo Chemical Depot to provide certainty for the Pueblo economy and foster future job creation.
