Rep. Boebert Votes to Protect the Right to Life

January 12, 2023

Yesterday, Congresswoman Boebert voted to defend the right to life by voting for the Born Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act, legislation she cosponsored to stop the horrific practice of refusing medical care to babies who survive late term abortions. Additionally, Congresswoman Boebert cosponsored and voted for a resolution to condemn the nearly 80 documented attacks on pro-life facilities and 108 attacks on churches across the country following the Supreme Court decision leak.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert stated, “Americans overwhelmingly reject the Democrats’ extremist views on abortion. 77% of Americans believe that a baby who survives a failed abortion attempt should receive the same lifesaving medical care as any other premature baby born at the same age. However, only one Democrat House Member agreed and voted for the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act. Democrats’ radical view on abortion is out of step with the rest of the country.

“Additionally, since the infamous Supreme Court leak, there have been almost 80 attacks against pro-life pregnancy resource centers that serve underprivileged mothers, connecting them with the services and resources they need while navigating challenging pregnancies. These violent attackers have firebombed, vandalized, and destroyed, but they cannot overcome the courage of brave pro-life leaders across the country.”

Background on the Born-Alive Abortion Survivors Protection Act:

Since Roe v. Wade was handed down in 1973, over 17,855 babies have survived a failed abortion attempt. Fourteen of these survivors had the courage to share their stories publicly. Many abortion survivors, including Melissa Ohden, have testified before Congress about how lifesaving care ensured that her young life did not end on the operating table of an abortion clinic. Additionally, Gianna Jessen testified before the House Judiciary Committee about how she survived an attempted late-term abortion when her mother was seven-and-a-half months pregnant.

In 2002, when the bill was first introduced, the Senate passed it unanimously and 14 Democrats co-sponsored the legislation. But yesterday, 210 Democrats voted against saving the lives of infants born alive after a failed abortion attempt. Saving the lives of abortion survivors like Melissa Ohden and Gianna Jessen should not be a partisan issue.

Background on the Resolution to Condemn Attacks on Pro-Life Pregnancy Resource Centers:

Since the leaked Supreme Court draft opinion of Dobbs, there have been at least 78 pregnancy resource centers and 108 churches that have been attacked and vandalized. Condemning violence in all forms should not be a partisan issue, yet only three Democrats out of 212 in the House voted to condemn these heinous attacks.
