Protecting Energy Jobs

President Biden took away the American people’s voice when—with the stroke of a pen—he unilaterally locked-up our federal lands and targeted our energy jobs. Now, Speaker Pelosi is continuing to silence Americans by refusing to bring my bill, the Protecting American Energy Jobs Act, to the House Floor for a vote.

If passed, my bill would save 16,000 high-paying energy jobs in Colorado over the next 4 years, restart construction on the Keystone Pipeline, add $640 billion to our economy over the next two decades, and keep energy prices stable and affordable. Leftist energy policies don’t work for Colorado, but I promise to keep working for you by fighting against them every step of the way.

Representative Chip Roy and I joined together and filed a petition to bring my bill to the House Floor for a vote so we can get Members of Congress on the record to see if they stand for American energy jobs or if they stand for outsourcing our jobs to China and other nations that hate America. Watch our statement on our petition HERE.

Supporting Rural Law Enforcement and Firefighters

I introduced the MORE PILT Act (or the Making Obligations Right by Enlarging Payments in Lieu of Taxes Act) to help rural counties fund law enforcement, education, firefighting, search and rescue operations, and real infrastructure. More than 55% of our District is federal land, and it hurts our rural counties’ economies since federal land is tax-exempt.

The Payment in Lieu of Taxes program was designed to narrow this gap by disbursing money to counties affected by the presence of federal land, but last year, the average PILT payment per acre was only $2.71—far less than the value of the land if it was eligible to be put on the market for taxable purposes. This inequity causes rural communities to struggle funding roads, bridges, firefighting, law enforcement, schools, and other essential services.

My MORE PILT Act directs the Secretary of the Interior to come up with a new model of distributing PILT payments in a way that’s more in-line with the land’s true value. This will re-energize our rural communities, fund essential services, and put rural America on equal footing with the rest of the Nation.

Keeping the Bureau of Land Management in Grand Junction

Every time I’m home, people are excited to hear about the work I’m doing for the District. One of the projects I’m most passionate about is keeping the Bureau of Land Management in Grand Junction, because it gives rural Coloradans a voice, saves taxpayers money, and provides jobs in the community.

Watch the highlights of my Bureau of Land Management roundtable with Chairman of the Western Caucus, Congressman Dan Newhouse, and local leaders HERE.

Defending the Right to Life

I was proud to deliver a video message to Mesa County Right to Life encouraging them for their great work serving pregnant mothers and fighting against abortion. Two things have shaped my convictions about the right to life: being a mother and being a follower of Jesus Christ. I will keep fighting against abortion in Congress, and more importantly, by supporting women in my community.
