House Approves Two Boebert Amendments Aimed at Tackling the Border Crisis

Today, the House passed two amendments offered by Congresswoman Lauren Boebert to the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Bill. These amendments aim to tackle the fentanyl crisis and hold rogue Biden bureaucrats responsible for their actions.
Congresswoman Lauren Boebert (CO-03) said, “Joe Biden and his radical DHS Secretary Mayorkas have allowed the border crisis to spiral out of control. Every day, thousands of Americans are dying from fentanyl that is coming over our border. Instead of making our borders more secure, Biden appointed radical leftists who want open borders and to abolish ICE. How many people have to die for this administration to take the Biden Border Crisis seriously? I will not sit around and wait for that question to be answered. The time to act on this crisis is now. We must stop the record influx of fentanyl, and rid DHS of radical globalists seeking to abolish our borders.”
Background:
This week, the House of Representatives debated H.R. 4367, the Department of Homeland Security Appropriations Bill Fiscal Year 2024. The House is expected to pass this legislation through the full House of Representatives in the near future.
In the 118th Congress, Congresswoman Boebert has been an extremely effective legislator, focusing on the needs of the Third Congressional District and delivering numerous legislative victories. Specifically, three of the Congresswoman’s bills and 42 of her amendments have passed the House. She also passed six bills through the House Committee on Natural Resources and the House Committee on Administration. In addition, the Congresswoman has secured $19.7 million for important water and infrastructure projects in the Third District through Community Project Funding requests included in House Appropriations bills.
Congresswoman Boebert successfully passed two amendments through the House of Representatives to H.R. 4367. These amendments include:
Boebert Amendment No. 1 - Redirects funding from DHS bureaucracy to fund CBP fentanyl detection at Border Patrol Checkpoints and prevent fentanyl from entering America.
Over 1,000 Coloradans and over 100,000 Americans have tragically lost their lives due to fentanyl. Fentanyl poses a severe national crisis, with enough of it entering our country to potentially kill every American 28 times over. The Biden administration's approach has allowed this crisis to escalate, primarily by loosening border controls and enabling the unchecked flow of this deadly drug from Mexico.
Boebert Amendment No. 47 – Utilizes the Holman Rule to decrease the salary of Ur M. Jaddou, Director of the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services to $1.
Ms. Jaddou is a radical leftist. Before joining the Biden administration, she worked for an open borders group called DHS Watch. While at DHS Watch, Jaddou called for stopping Border Patrol funding and referred to CBP as President Trump's "personal militia." Ms. Jaddou has also previously called for the mass release of illegal immigrants. Someone like this should not be in a position of influence at the Department of Homeland Security. She has no regard for the rule of law and should not be in a position of influence at the Department of Homeland Security.

The Homeland Security bill includes $91.515 billion in total discretionary appropriations for the Department of Homeland Security, including $62.793 billion within the bill’s allocation, $5.837 billion in discretionary appropriations offset by fee collections, and $20.261 billion as an allocation adjustment for major disaster response and recovery activities. The total, within the allocation, is $2.090 billion above the Fiscal Year 2023 level.
Additionally, this bill:
Secures our southwest border by:
- Providing $2.104 billion for construction of physical wall along the southwest border.
- Providing $496 million for 22,000 Border Patrol Agents, the highest level ever funded.
- Restoring border security technology funding to the FY22 level of $276 million.
- Forcing Secretary Mayorkas to adhere to the law and build physical barriers immediately.
Removes dangerous criminals by:
- Providing $3.550 billion for custody operations, which is more than ever previously appropriated, to fund an average daily ICE detainee population of 41,500; and
- Providing $655 million to fund transportation and removal operations for removable aliens.
