Congresswoman Boebert Announces Subcommittee Assignments

February 1, 2023

As a Member on the House Committee on Natural Resources, Congresswoman Boebert was selected to serve the people of Colorado’s Third District on the Subcommittee on Water, Wildlife, and Fisheries, and also on the Subcommittee on Energy and Mineral Resources.

Additionally, as a Member on the House Committee on Oversight and Accountability, Congresswoman Boebert will serve on the Subcommittee on Economic Growth, Energy Policy, and Regulatory Affairs and on the Subcommittee on Government Operations and the Federal Workforce.

Congresswoman Lauren Boebert stated, “Water and American energy remain two of my top priorities, and I am thrilled to be a voice for rural Colorado as a member on these two critical subcommittees. I will keep working on effective policies to unleash American energy, protect water rights, fight western drought, prevent wildfires, and steward our natural resources in a way that puts rural Colorado first.

“Creating an environment for economic growth, supporting American energy production, cutting burdensome regulations, and holding the federal government accountable will be my priorities on these two vital Subcommittees of the Committee on Oversight and Government Accountability. For far too long, rogue, government bureaucrats have ignored and infringed on the freedoms of the people of Colorado’s Third District.”

Background:

In the 117th Congress, Congresswoman Lauren Boebert was a leader on water issues impacting Colorado’s Third District:

  • Supporting 566 water projects that would provide new or improved ditches, pipelines, conveyance, and storage for Conejos, Alamosa, Rio Grande, and Mineral counties.
  • Advocating to defeat the misguided proposal put forth by the Denver suburbs to steal seven billion gallons of water per year in perpetuity from the San Luis Valley.
  • Introducing the Western Water Security Act to protect private water rights, defend against federal water grabs, and help ensure an abundant supply of clean water for future generations.
  • Fighting federal bureaucracy to get the San Luis Valley weather radar online to improve precipitation forecasting for local water districts.
  • Aggressively working to remove invasive salt cedar and Russian olive trees that are guzzling water by securing an important appropriations victory that became law to establish a pilot program to combat salt cedars.
  • Defending private water rights from Biden’s attempt to reinstate the controversial Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule.
  • Introducing the bipartisan House Companion to the Dolores River National Conservation Area and Special Management Area Act to protect private water rights and conserve the Dolores River.
  • Securing $10 million for the Indian Irrigation Fund to address the deferred maintenance backlog and increase water storage projects like the Southern Utes’ Pine River Indian Irrigation Project.
  • Introducing H.R. 4302, comprehensive forestry legislation, that will improve forest health and improve water quality while also helping protect our watersheds and municipal water supplies.
  • Supporting the Huerfano Water Conservancy District’s effort to combat drought by enlarging the Maria-Stevens Reservoir, connecting three existing reservoirs, and building the Bruce Canyon Reservoir.
  • Cosponsoring the Upper Colorado and San Juan River Basins Recovery Act, bipartisan legislation that became law and provides Endangered Species Act compliance for approximately 2,200 water projects while helping recover endangered fish.

In the 117th Congress, Congresswoman Boebert was also a leader supporting American energy:

  • Introducing the Fueling American Prosperity Act to reduce gas prices and responsibly develop American energy by streamlining the permit process. This legislation would also restart the construction of the Keystone XL pipeline, ban importing Russian oil and natural gas, and resume oil and natural gas leasing. It will increase American energy exports to boost our economy and project American strength while exporting freedom throughout the world.
  • Introducing the Protecting American Energy Jobs Act to stop this administration’s attack on energy workers. If these anti-American energy policies are left in place, Colorado will lose 16,000 energy jobs during his first term and over 200,000 in the next decade. This bill repeals Biden’s job-killing executive mandates, ensures reliable and affordable energy supplies, and fosters economic growth and job creation in rural communities.
  • Introducing a bipartisan amendment that unanimously passed the House Committee on Natural Resources to protect American energy infrastructure
  • Cosponsoring the Energy Permitting Certainty Act to prevent frivolous lawsuits from preventing the processing of energy permits.
  • Cosponsoring the Onshore Energy Production Act to immediately resume onshore oil and gas lease sales.
