Defending the Right to Life
On Monday, a draft of what could be the Supreme Court’s decision for Dobbs v. Jackson Women’s Health was leaked. While we await the final decision, I’m encouraged that the issue to protect the unborn could return to the states. I support life. DEFENDING FREE SPEECH Free speech is a constitutional right, not a privilege. By creating a Disinformation Governance Board, or Orwellian “Ministry of Truth,” the Biden administration is attacking one of the fundamental rights that has made America a beacon of freedom. The cornerstone of free speech is allowing even those you disagree with to have a platform. Without this principle, the American experiment would have failed long ago. It is unconstitutional and anti-American to have a government agency policing speech. I led 61 of my colleagues and introduced the Protecting Free Speech Act to abolish the Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Disinformation Governance Board. Furthermore, my bill ensures that DHS is unable to create any similar entity ever again and ensures that our right to free speech is protected as the founders intended. Joe Biden is now following the same playbook used by Stalin and Mao. This is a fight worth having, and I won’t stop until this board is terminated.
BLASTING THE BIDEN BORDER CRISIS If Homeland Security Secretary Mayorkas wants to police disinformation, he should start with himself. He lied to Congress, saying the border was secure. He lied to the American people, falsely accusing our brave Border Patrol agents of whipping illegal aliens with horse reins. Here is the truth: the border is a disaster. I’ve seen the crisis with my own eyes. Illegal aliens have drowned while trying to swim across the Rio Grande, and Army National Guard Specialist Bishop E. Evans died while trying to rescue a drug smuggler drowning in the Rio Grande. Sex traffickers are smuggling young girls and branding them with a hot iron. Record numbers of Americans in small towns across the country are dying from fentanyl flowing across the southern border. There is nothing compassionate about open borders. If we want to stop the humanitarian crisis at the border, the way to do it is to pass my Secure the Southern Border Act, which will build the wall, reinstate the successful remain in Mexico policy, and defund sanctuary cities. Instead, Biden is making his border crisis even worse by ending enforcement of Title 42, a bi-partisan, commonsense policy prohibiting illegal aliens with communicable diseases like COVID from coming into our country. Even while Americans still face some COVID restrictions, illegal aliens are getting a free pass into our country unvetted, untested, and unidentified. Title 42 is one of the most effective tools Border Patrol had left to protect Americans, and by eliminating it, Biden is making their already thread-bear resources even thinner. We need to stop the Biden Border Crisis and send a message that if you want to come to America, do it the right way. Do it like the 41 new Americans I welcomed at a naturalization ceremony last year. After studying our laws, history, and traditions, they swore an oath of allegiance to this great country, and they know what it takes to make our country a more perfect union. As they waved Old Glory, I saw pride in their tear-filled eyes. It reinforced what a privilege it is to live in the greatest nation on earth. We can never take our freedom and liberty for granted.
HONORING FRUITA MONUMENT HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS HEADING TO CULINARY NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP It was great visiting Fruita Monument High School to honor their state championship culinary team with Certificates of Congressional Recognition. As a restaurant owner, I know how challenging cooking under pressure can be, but the Fruita Monument High School culinary team made it look easy! I am so excited for them to come to Washington, D.C. and represent our community well. Learning culinary skills is a wonderful school-to-career program, and this is exactly the kind of vocational training I would love to see more of in our schools. That is why I introduced an amendment to ensure that apprenticeship programs are eligible for more funding.
BIDEN'S DEPARTMENT OF DEFENSE UNDERSECRETARY STILL DOESN'T HAVE ANSWERS ABOUT AFGHANISTAN Last year, Biden’s incompetence led to the tragic deaths of 13 American service members. Congress rightfully demanded to know what resources Biden left behind in Afghanistan, but the Department of Defense has been hiding the truth. Last week, Biden’s Department of Defense Undersecretary came before the Budget Committee to ask for more funding. I asked him basic questions that taxpayers deserve to know like how much military equipment did Biden give the Taliban? How many people have died due to Biden’s incompetence? Congress and the American taxpayer deserve answers to these questions.
